Port St. Lucie

Family Friendly Town Threaded by the St. Lucie River

Welcome to Port St. Lucie, Florida

Port St. Lucie is one of the newer cities on the Treasure Coast, however, it's origin of it's name is much older. The place name of "St. Lucie" was the name of a nearby Spanish settlement that began in 1556. Later it was also confused with St. Lucie Village north of Fort Pierce which is still in existence. In 1961, the town of Port St Lucie began with 250 homes located along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. There's no confusing Port St. Lucie with other tiny villages these days. It currently has a population of 217,523.

One of my favorite natural areas as the The Savannas comprised of thirteen eco-systems including: pine flatwoods, wet prairie, basin
marsh, marsh lake, sand pine scrub and scrubby flatwoods. Each community is characterized by a distinct population of plants and animals that are naturally associated with each other and their
physical environment. This preserve has natural areas in Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach and Fort Pierce.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Fernando's Dockside Grill is one of the best restaurants in Port St Lucie. It has a relaxing ambiance and delicious food. For one of my favorite food groups, we go to Casa Amigos on Federal Highway for Mexican Food. 😉 For breakfast; check out Berry Fresh Cafe for lots of awesome treats or Grandpa's Diner for that old school diner feel with a staff that really works hard to serve their customers.

Local Lifestyle

Port St. Lucie has a more relaxed atmosphere than its larger neighbors to the north or the south. The St. Lucie River weaves through the city. The city also boasts clean streets, quiet neighborhoods and lush green golf courses. With it's proximity to The Turnpike and I-95, commuters and visitors alike find it an easy community to access.

Things to Do

Sitting by the St. Lucie River, the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens is devoted to orchids, bamboo and native plants. There are areas dedicated to butterflies and hummingbirds. The Riverwalk Boardwalk provides a lovely walk through nearby mangroves. The waterways of the North Fork St. Lucie Aquatic Preserve are home to manatees, river otters, egrets and other wildlife. The Oxbow Eco-Center is beautiful riverside reserve spanning 225 acres with trails, viewing towers & a sustainable learning center.
